Did you know that St. Croix is a safe haven for leatherback turtles? The leatherback turtles nest on Sandy Point on the West End of St. Croix Virgin Islands. The Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge accounted for 107 leatherbacks nesting on the beach this year making a total of 460 individual nests on the beaches. They assumed that this might develop into 32,000 hatchlings bred on Sandy Point this year.
