Millennium Celebration in Frederiksted St. Croix
December 31, 1999
December
31, 1999 Millennium Celebration in Frederiksted was a cultural
extravaganza. Many local people participated in attempting to break the
Guinness Book of World Records by being a mocko jumbie, blowing a conch shell,
dancing quadrille or dancing the electric slide. Everyone enjoyed. There
were official guest speakers, steel pan music playing in the air and a tourist
ship in the background to set the stage on the Frederiksted Wharf. Thousands of
people were in attendance. It was televised live by our local
television station. We don't know where we stand with Guinness, but the
number of participants were 75 mocko jumbies, 422 quadrille dancers, 101 conch
shell blowers and 962 electric sliders. What a beautiful site of people, culture
and colors. The following are pictures of the events.
Enjoy!
